Falcon Flight School - what is it?
Falcon Flight School was started in 2009 by Mr. Petry and the staff. The staff brings the incoming freshman into the building shortly before school starts. Freshmen get their schedules, lockers, and planners. They also get a backpack and other falcon gear. They get to walk their schedule, meet their teachers, learn how to work their lockers and find the best way to get to their classes - all with no upperclassmen around to make them feel stupid or embarrassed. They also learn the Alma Matter, and some cheers and such. It basically helps them to "Soar" right from the very beginning, hence our Baby Falcons are taking Flight!
New in 2011 is a Parent Information Session & Parent Meeting at the same time and on the same day - so bring your freshman, and please stay for an important information session and become a Falcon Parent!
Mr. Petry recently stated at a PTSA meeting, that since Falcon Flight School has started, the beginning of school has been an almost seamless transition. Everything is calm and cool...
He has also observed that the number of freshman and sophomores volunteering for Student Council, class officers, etc... has more than doubled. They get involved in more clubs sooner in their high school career as well.
We, as the PTSA, offer some "mom & dad" power on the day of Falcon Flight School to help the incoming freshmen find the right lines, help them in the halls, help them with lockers and such. We also donate $500.00 to help offset the backpacks and folders costs. This is a great volunteer opportunity for those "seasoned" parents.
Another PTSA & FHS staff success....SUCH A WONDERFUL PROGRAM !
