Now, speaking of the Firestone High School Marching Band...They had a spectacular showing at their OMEA Competion in New Philidelphia this past weekend!!   Before a hushed crowd, the Firestone Band won the (35th annual) New Philadelphia Field Competition last night with a score of 265, their highest ever!  The de facto Grand Champions placed first in their class (A) out of 9 (nine) with @ 20 bands competing overall. excellent performance.  At the end of evening, the only thing higher than our score, were the trophies awarded by New Philly.  One judge commented that they had never seen a band improve so much from start to end of one season.  Observations like those can only be made through the hard work of all involved.

Jul 02, 2010

For the sixth year in a row, Firestone High School has been named one of Newsweek's top 1,500 high schools in the United States. This prestigious honor is awarded based on the number of Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate courses offered to students. In addition to AP and IB, Firestone offers students a wide variety of award-winning programs including visual and performing arts, foreign language study, and athletics. Firestone is the only school in the greater-Akron area that earned this honor.

“I am very proud of the work we are doing here at Firestone High School,” said Firestone Principal Larry Petry. “This shows that we are giving a first-class education at 'Public School' price.”
